CBA has set up India Educational Investment Fund, IEIF, with US based Michael & Susan Dell Foundation as a limited partner. The target sector for this fund are early stage for-profit companies focused on solutions for urban low income families in the education space.
We work closely with these companies every step of the way of becoming a successful start-up business, helping them design a sustainable business plan, conduct market analysis and plan scale-up strategies.
In the last few months IEIF has made investments three interesting ed start-ups. Our portfolio companies are active in different sections of the education space, committed to deliver high quality products and services to facilitate a much needed change for our target segment.
Founded in Bangalore in 2013 by Amruth B R, Guru-G Learning Labs India Pvt Ltd focuses on designing software that includes guided lesson plans, teacher training and an open certification platform. Their mission is to provide in-class, situated guidance for effective delivery of curriculum, as they believe it is the most direct and efficient way to improve quality of teachers. They do it using a tablet- based app that a teacher carries into the classroom.
Chennai based Report Bee, founded by Anant Mani, focuses on collecting data, both academic and co-scholastic, in schools and presents it in beautiful performance reports. Teachers get a continuous updates on all students progress and can take immediate actions to bridge learning gaps when they happen, not only after exams are finished and it is too late. The company have seen good growth lately and are now present in India, Malaysia, Phillippines, Middle East and Sri Lanka.
ChipperSage Education Private Limited is based in Bangalore and develops research critical products that facilitate easier learning of concepts for children in ages 2 years to 14 years. Their flagship product is called Flow of English; a conceptual English learning system, built with techniques and tools to promote the understanding of the language. Founder and director Latha Srinivasan started the company in 2012 after working for 18 years in the information technology space in India and abroad.
Data collection had interested Oliveboard’s founders Abhishek Patil and Satish Kumar for a long time when in 2012 they decided to partner up and bring data-driven, adaptive learning to the test prep space. Oliveboard’s adaptive platform provides complete exam practice; Mock Tests, Sectional Tests, Adaptive Tests, Group Study Games along with Conceptual Videos & Lessons on one intelligent platform that continuously provides targeted recommendations on weak areas.
